I know one of the Microbit software guys is actively working on the WinTest issue it will be interesting to see what they come up with. Right now, there are issues on both the WinTest and N1MM+ reflectors concerning Win10, radio control, and virtual com ports. Right now I am testing with only one space at the end of each command. I just updated the firmware to version 2.90, but that did not resolve the issue. My question is why is it necessary to add one of more spaces to the end of each N1MM+ logger function key command?

However, during the CQ160CW contest this year, the issue occurred often enough that I switched back to the KY CATA1ASC Function Key File. Finally, I discovered that if I added a couple of spaces at the end of each N1MM+ logger function key command, the issue appeared to go away. The extent of the issue varies from station to station. I tried everything to eliminate this issue. This was accompanied by either a K3 ERR KEY or ERR PTT message. That is, the TX light stayed lit after a command was completed. Initially, the remote K3 hung up frequently.

Recently, I determined how to use the WinKey emulator to key a remote K3 directly using the stock N1MM+ Function Key Files. I have modified stock N1MM+ Function Key Files to use the K3 KY command and the N1MM+ CATA1ASC command to transmit ASCII characters to a remote K3 for nearly a year, because this is what RHR tells you to do. I use an RRC-1258 MkII to interface with my Elecraft K3/0 Mini and the N1MM+ logger. keyer is ON, but I need it I guess as I have to use paddle during the contest too :).

The Winkey is good for that - I use them or the variant built into one of the Microham boxes. If you need to use both computer keying and a paddle, you probably need an external keyer. Try turning it off temporarily and see if computer keying is OK. 73, Rich VE3KI On Mon, at 09:44 AM, Mark Bailey wrote:

It could be because of a problem with the USB driver for the serial port (adapters based on the Prolific chip have a bad reputation for problems with CW), or it could be because the computer or the computer's USB hub is not up to the timing task - this depends on what else is going on in the computer and/or on what other devices might be connected to the same USB hub. Petr's problem (bad CW when using the radio control port control line keying) has nothing to do with the K3's internal keyer.

As with the straight key input on the back of the rig, you can use a paddle with the paddle input on the back of the radio for manual CW keying in between using computer messages. You can use this from a computer for serial port CW keying. There is another straight key input on the K3, using one of the control lines (DTR or RTS) on the radio control port.

Don't use the paddle at the same time as the computer is keying, because that will cause garble - but it is perfectly OK to use the paddle while the computer is not actually sending CW. If you want to use a paddle as well as computer keying, plug the computer key interface into the straight key input and the paddle into the paddle input. Unlike the rigs that Mark is thinking of that have a single CW keying port, the K3 has separate input jacks for straight key/computer keying vs. On Februat 10:41 AM ve3ki wrote: None of this applies to the K3 or K3S. 73, Rich VE3KI toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
